However, given the ambiguities of the issues, Linden Lab has decided that we will not accept any classified ads, place listings, or event listings that appear to relate to simulated casino activity."Although I had no dreams to build or host a casino, this statement snuffs out the ability to properly market a casino. Obviously I can purchase some land, build a casino and fill it with enticing games of chance. But then how will anyone hear of it?
Some residents cheer at the fact there will be no more stupid search results for casinos while others cheer that this will force casinos to close and thus ending lag problems in their part of the world. The casino owners have said this will effectively kill their business, losing all the time and money they have invested in getting their businesses operational.
A lot of casinos provide jobs for new residents via "camping chairs" as well as "employees" who in turn spend their money elsewhere in the world. Other items that appear to fall under the new law include "xploder" balls and other novelty items found in many of the clubs and gathering places around the world. These places will have to re-evaluate their ability to properly advertise their events with accordance the new law.
As the residents cheered and cried, the heavens spoke again:

When did Seokcheon become part of a government entity that passed it's own laws?
Does this imply I have to obey the laws of my user? If so, why?

Obviously, any "place" in SL is in California - because the servers are in California; however, the laws under which the behavior of individuals can be criminalized depend on where the real human's ass is parked behind their keyboard, son. If you are physically in NY state, NY state laws are in force. GOT IT?
You seriously want argue as a RL person for a blog from the perspective of a SL resident?
It's a "Second Life". People can create and become things otherwise impossible in RL. One can be a short black female, spider or gigantic robot. While within a role playing element, people become the persona represented by the avatar. It's a 'social-game' of sorts, else everyone would be resented as what they are ... NOT super-model females, jock males, neko, furries...
Now arguments have spun from the US illegal online gambling to various age and/or role playing. The only one with any validity would be online gambling only due to the L$ to US$ conversions that can take place.
My concerns with casinos in SL is the lack of governance provided. There is no standards committee or code review for ratification of the machines used within casinos.
Could you imagine the cops busting your door down and arresting you for performing Beastility cause you had virtual sex with a neko/furry? How about a sodomy charge or a prostitution charge? Failing to file quarterly business taxes? Do I need to be paying personal property taxes for my virtual land? Oh wait, some people don't live where these things are illegal.
In the end this will only speed up the desire to have an OpenSource solution where people can create their own SIM/Metaverse and mean death of Linden Labs/SecondLife as the premier virtual universe.
